About Us

The Utah Animal Rights Coalition (UARC) is a registered Utah non-profit animal rights organization.* Operating on the principle that animals are not ours to do with as we please, UARC works every day to encourage a compassionate understanding of animals in our culture.

To be most effective, UARC focuses on educating the public about vegetarianism - by not consuming the products that come from animal exploitation, each individual is making a statement against inhumane practices, undertaking an economic boycott, and supporting the production of vegetarian products with their subsequent choices. These decisions, and the message they send to others, help to move society away from industries that use animals as a means to human ends.

UARC attempts to be a voice of defense for animals suffering not only for consumption, but for vivisection, the clothing trade, "entertainment" industries, and anywhere else this senseless brutality occurs.

UARC's aggressive campaign strategies include high-profile publicity stunts, massive demonstrations, public education, investigation of animal neglect cases, non-violent civil disobedience, going out of state to help facilitate the organization of fellow animal protectionist groups, etc. Our grassroots campaigns and cruelty investigations span the state of Utah and beyond.

November, 2001 represents our third year in existence here in Utah, and we have accomplished a great deal since that time.

Achievements

  • In 1999 alone, UARC spoke in numerous classrooms and provided educational materials to hundreds of students across the state of Utah.
  • UARC has tabled at dozens of events including, but not limited to, concerts, conferences, social gatherings, schools, and church gatherings - influencing thousands of individuals to live cruelty-free.
  • UARC has served numerous meatless meals at over 30 pure-vegetarian potlucks and over five banquet dinners.
  • In an effort to make vegetarianism the most convenient and accessible, UARC actively supports and advertises vegetarian restaurants free of charge.
  • UARC established several student animal rights groups in Universities and High Schools across the state of Utah.
  • UARC has investigated numerous domestic animal abuse/neglect cases that have been reported to our office.

Group Funding:

UARC's work is funded almost entirely by volunteers and members. UARC welcomes donations and encourage memberships as like almost all other groups we need funds and activists to operate.

As a member, not only will you be helping to support the most active animal rights organization in Utah, but you'll also receive discounts at local restaurants, as well as receive our quarterly newspaper. Donations are used to cover running costs such as telephone calls, paper, printing, postage etc. We also need funds to purchase software and other single items which will improve the services that are provided.

Donations do not have to be in the form of cash - you can purchase specific items that the group currently needs, or you may have items that you think might be useful. Current items needed by the group are: a digital camera, other computer hardware, computer software, paid advertisements, and other items.

If you would like to donate to the group, no matter how small, then please get in touch.

* We are working on becoming a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

The Utah Animal Rights Coalition (UARC) does not support violence, terrorism, vandalism, or intimidation. The mission of UARC is to defend the rights of animals using strictly non-violent means including educational tactics, protest, and civil disobedience.
