### MIYUN PARK BANQUET ###
As you hopefully already know, UARC will be hosting Miyun Park, the director of Farm Animal Welfare at The Humane Society of the United States in Washington, D.C., and the former president of Compassion Over Killing, at a benefit dinner on 23rd of October. More details will follow in another email, and are also available online at http://www.uarc.com/miyun_park/ . If you don't already have a ticket now, this is the perfect time to get one. You can also pick up a membership to UARC for only $15 more.
We need your help! We are looking for volunteers to assist with this production:
Food preparation (4 people)
- requires food handlers permit -
* Saturday food preparation and cooking
* Sunday food transport to venue and load in
* Serving at the venue
Venue help (4 people)
* Sunday general assistance in the venue itself for putting up directional signs, table decorations, arranging tables, etc.
As a big thank you for service, with more than four hours of help, you can get a free ticket to the event. Of course, you are encouraged to donate the at-cost price oft he event (probably $7) as this is a benefit for UARC.
Thanks! Get in touch with Eric (560-8238, ewaters at uarc.com) and Jason (809-6873, jasonh at uarc.com) to get involved!
### DEMONSTRATION AGAINST FUR ###
As the cold weather approaches, retailers are unfortunately going to be rampimg up the sale of fur. Items such as fur trim and full length fur coats are the products of a cruel and barbaric industry, and need to be opposed by humane people at every turn. In an effort to educate the stop this atrocity, UARC will be starting a weekly demonstration at the downtown Gateway mall.
Where: The north west corner of 100 S. 400 W. (this location may change)
When: Every Saturday from 12:00 noon until 1:00 pm
While we will be demonstrating in general to all the holiday & winter shoppers, we will begin by targetting the J. Crew line which recently began selling fur in it's line of clothing (for more details about this, visit http://www.jcruel.com). Please dress according to the weather. Signs and leaflets will be provided.
### HALLOWEEN POTLUCK ###
The Utah Zombie Rights Coalition will be taking a break from our fight for equality for zombies and undead creatures to have a little scream of a social. Our monthly potluck dinner will be held on October 30th at the residence of not-dead-yet Leici "Maybe" Hendrix and Ben "Gob" Warden at 1012 S. 800 E.. Meet a bit before the witching hour at 7:00 PM for a night of screams. Come dressed in your finest rags, bags, and whatever else you'll be wearing on All Hallows Eve.
Bring the most revolting, creepy and crawly vegan mash you can concoct. Please RSVP to Eric "Buster" Waters at ewaters at uarc.com or 560-8238 with what dish you'll be bringing.
### KCPW FUNDRAISING DRIVE ###
Volunteers with UARC will be helping with the phones at KCPW this Friday from 6:00 to 9:15 a.m. This is our third and final time slot on this drive.
Please join us in supporting KCPW. It's our community radio station and a vital source of news and information on Salt Lake City and Northern Utah. Tune in to 88.3 or 105.3 FM or 1010 AM from 6:00 to 9:15 a.m. Friday, October 21st - if you were planning to donate to KCPW, please pledge during this time and say that you're a UARC supporter. As an added bonus, UARC may be offering a pledge gift of a Miyun Park banquet ticket + one year UARC Membership, so stay tuned!
